George Edward Darsey IV “Chicken George”

George Edward Darsey IV, 61 of Houston, passed away on October 16, 2019 in Sugarland, Texas.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Saturday, October 19, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Grapeland, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 20, 2019, at First United Methodist Church Grapeland with Rev. Wade Harman and Rev. Randy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow at Grapeland City Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.

George was born in Crockett, Texas to Charley Combs and Martha Ann Hill Darsey on November 30, 1957. He graduated from Grapeland High School. He also obtained a Bachelors Degree in Business from Sam Houston State University. He worked as a food broker. He was a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and the Texas Restaurant Association. He was a Methodist. George loved to play the piano, guitar and write his own music. He loved to entertain and tell his life story through the songs he wrote.

George Darsey is preceded in death by his parents, Charley C. and Martha Ann Hill Darsey of Grapeland; grandparents George E. Darsey Jr., and Margaret Josephine (Maggie), Combs Darsey of Grapeland, Dr. Charles Cummings and Myrtle Gossett Hill of Grapeland.

George Darsey is survived by sons George Austin Darsey and wife Michelle of Houston, and David Eric Darsey of Houston, brother, Charley H. Darsey and wife Tonya of Grapeland, and sister Catherine Darsey Hobson of Grapeland, nieces Haley Darsey of Grapeland, Brooke McCully of Tyler, and nephew James Hobson of Grapeland.

Pallbearers will be George Austin Darsey, David Eric Darsey, Charley Darsey, Bill Long, Leon Davis, James Hobson, and Blake Parker.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Music Doing Good Charity, 4203 Yoakum, Suite 200, Houston, Texas 77006.
