Sandies Remain Unbeaten In District 20-2A

Grapeland Defeats Latexo, 79-29

GRAPELAND – The Grapeland Sandies welcomed the Latexo Tigers to town on Tuesday, Jan. 22 for a District 20-2A contest. The Tigers came into the game with a district mark of 1-5 but still had an outside chance at the fourth playoff spot.

Grapeland on the other hand came into the game with an unblemished mark in district play and were starting to look very hard at their umpteenth consecutive district crown.

As the game got underway, the Sandies took control early as they raced out to a 27-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play as Eli Filer and Karson Hardy both scored two for the Tigers.

The Sandies were led by Deco Bryant with 10 points while Javion Joseph and Cadarian Wiley both had five. Austin Driskell connected on a shot from behind the arc and Keizion Ashford, along with Rick Frauenberger, had two apiece to close out the first quarter scoring.

Javion Joseph goes up for two of his 13 points on the night as Grapeland defeated the Latexo Tigers by a final score of 79-29.

The Tigers showed a little more offensive firepower in the second quarter as Hardy knocked down four. Sam Jones drained a three while both Jacob Catoe and Kase Miller had one.

Grapeland’s second quarter points came from Joseph and Keriaun Davis with six apiece. Bryant hit his third three of the half while Frauenberger, Josh Ackley and Tyrin Wiley all dropped in a two-pointer as the Sandies took a 48-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Following the break, the Sandies began to slow the tempo on both side of the court. Latexo’s Carter Catoe knocked down five points and Matthew Wheeler hit a three to make the score 63-21 after three periods of play.

Grapeland’s third quarter points came from T. Wiley with five and C. Wiley with four. Ashford, Davis and Jack Woodford all had two apiece to close out the third quarter Sandie scoring.

The fourth quarter saw four Latexo players score as J. Catoe, Hardy and Jones all netted two to close out the Tigers’ point production.

The Sandies were led in the fourth quarter by Davis and Woodford with four apiece. Bryant hit his fourth three of the game while both Ackley and Joseph had two apiece. C. Wiley made one of two from the line to round out Grapeland scoring as Grapeland won by a final of 79-29.

On the game, the Tigers were led by Carson Hardy with eight points. Carter Catoe and Sam Jones both had five while Jacob Catoe and Matthew Wheeler had three apiece. Tristan Curless and Eli Filer had two each while Kase Miller had one.

The Sandies were led in scoring by Deco Bryant with a game-high 16 points and Javion Joseph with 13. Keriaun Davis went for 12 and Cadarian Wiley netted 10. Tyrin Wiley had seven Jack Woodford dropped in six while Josh Ackley, Keizion Ashford and Rick Frauenberger all had four. Aaron Driskell added three to round out the Grapeland scoring.
