Fletcher Leads Slocum to 57-30 Win

SLOCUM – In a pre-Thanksgiving contest, the Slocum Lady Mustangs welcomed the Hudson Lady Hornets to town for a little hoops action on Tuesday evening, Nov. 20.

The game was never even close as Slocum jumped out to an early 10 point lead as they coasted to a 27-point win.

The Lady Mustangs’ quickness and tenacity on defense kept the Lady Hornets at bay throughout the whole game. In fact, Hudson didn’t reach double figures in the scoring column until midway through the third quarter.

The first quarter saw the Lady Mustangs open up a double digit lead they would never relinquish. Jalyn Fletcher and Laney Lasiter dropped in four apiece while both Courtney January and Gina Lively connected from behind the three-point line.

The only Hudson first quarter points came from Lauren Thornton with four as Slocum led 14-4 after the first eight minutes of play.

The second quarter was more of the same as the Lady Mustangs opened up a 16 point lead by the time the first half came to a close.

January and Lively hit from three-point land once again while Jaidan Wickersham joined the backcourt duo with a three of her own. Lasiter added a pair of free throws to close out the Slocum first half scoring.

Ryleigh Lane dropped in five for the Lady Hornets as Hudson found itself down by a score of 25-9 as the two teams headed into the locker rooms for halftime.

As the second half got underway, the Lady Mustangs quickly put the game on ice as Fletcher dropped in eight, January had her third three of the game and Gabi Skelton hit a two.

The Lady Hornets were paced by Makiley Rhodes with five and Shalyn Anthony with two as Slocum began to pull away with a 38-16 lead after three periods of play.

The fourth quarter belonged to Fletcher as she dropped in four threes to go along with a two for a total of 14, fourth quarter points. January nailed a pair from the line, Libby Kessel added two more and Skelton had one to close out the Slocum point production.

Terran Foreman led Hudson with 12 fourth quarter points while Chloe Castillo added two as the horn sounded to give the Lady Mustangs a 57-30 victory.

On the game, the Lady Hornets were paced by Terran Foreman’s 12 points. Ryleigh Lane and Makiley Rhodes had five apiece while Lauren Thornton had four. Shalyn Anthony and Chloe Castillo had two apiece to round out the Hudson scoring.

For the Lady Mustangs, Jalyn Fletcher led all scorers with 26 points while Courtney January dropped in 11. Laney Lasiter and Gina Lively both had six while Gabi Skelton and Jaiden Wickersham both had three. Libby Kessel also chipped in two for Slocum.
