CROCKETT – While the Houston County Hospital District is searching to find a healthcare provider to re-open the recently closed Timberlands Healthcare facility, an effort to fund the hospital has been undertaken by Houston County residents.

On June 28, a “GoFundMe” account was established by Patricia Dickey of Crockett. As of Friday, July 7, a total of $3,430 of a $200,000 goal has been received.

According to updates posted by Dickey on the Go-Fund-Me website, “We are a local family who own and operate a business in Crockett, Houston County. Our family has been in Houston County for over 100 years. We are friends and acquaintances with some employees and medical staff at the hospital, but have no business association – neither with the hospital nor with any medical or other personnel – but simply, as residents, we have depended on the services of our hospital to be there when needed.”

“There is a real need for this hospital in Houston County – not only for unexpected emergencies, needed surgical procedures, but also for the needs of the elderly who are residents in one of three nursing homes,” she added.

Dickey’s update further stated, “All funds belong to and are immediately available to the Houston County Hospital Board. The funds will be used solely by the Houston County Hospital Board for operating expenses until a new provider can be identified.”

All funds received go to the account “Friends of Houston County Hospital” at Prosperity Bank, located at 1105 East Loop 304 in Crockett. The phone number is 936-546-2265. Donations may be dropped off at the bank or mailed to the address listed above.
