LATEXO – The Lovelady Lions are starting to round into midseason form and make a push towards the postseason. Following a loss at the hands of the Big Sandy Wildcats earlier in the week, the Lions traveled to Latexo for a game against the Tigers and rebounded nicely with an 82-54 win.

The Lions and Tigers opened the game evenly as both teams scored 16 points in the first quarter. The Tigers were led by Sonny Townsend with 10 points. Townsend was joined in the scoring column by Tristan Curless with a 3-pointer, Kase Miller with two and Jack Woodford with one.

Lovelady was led by Hunter Murray with seven points. Murray was joined in the scoring by Corey Hawkins with five along with Alex McKnight and Hunter Patton who both had two.

The Tigers continued to battle as the second quarter got underway. Miller poured in seven and Townsend dropped in six. Woodford added two as both Curless and Justin Bobbitt added one to help give Latexo a 33-33 tie at halftime.

The Lions scored their points on five from McKnight and 3-pointers from Murray and Michael Price. Colt Robinson, Jay Thomas Robinson and Ty Stubblefield accounted for the other six Lovelady points as the two teams went to their respective locker rooms all knotted up at the break.

The Lions appeared to come out of halftime with a new resolve and began to pull away from the Tigers. Hawkins, Murray and J. Robinson all scored five in the quarter while McKnight, Patton and C. Robinson all chipped in two as the Lions opened up a 54-48 lead.

The Tigers managed to keep the game within reach as Woodford scored five while both Bobbitt and Townsend scored four. Miller added two as the Tigers kept within striking distance as the game entered the final period of play.

The Tigers, unfortunately, simply ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. Bobbitt nailed a 3-pointer, Townsend added two and Curless chipped in one but that was all Latexo could muster in the last eight minutes of action.

Meanwhile, the Lions rode the hot hand of C. Robinson as they began to pull away in the final period. C. Robinson poured in 10 fourth quarter points while Tim Johnson added six. J. Robinson added four and three other Lions – Murray, Price and Stubblefield – all scored two as Lovelady defeated Latexo by a final score of 80-54.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Sonny Townsend with a game high 22 points. Kase Miller dropped in 11, Justin Bobbitt and Jack Woodford both went for eight and Tristan Curless added five.

The Lions were led in scoring by Hunter Murray with 17 points. Colt Robinson netted 14 and Jay Thomas Robinson threw in 11. Corey Hawkins dropped in 10, Alex McKnight netted nine, Tim Johnson had six and Michael Price had five.  Hunter Patton and Ty Stubblefield both had four to close out the Lovelady point production in the game.
