CROCKETT – After suffering a tough loss at the hands of the Centerville Lady Tigers, the Crockett Lady Bulldogs were able to bounce back and earn an easy win over the Trinity Lady Tigers on Friday night. Led by Kiarah Riley and Az’Ha Alfred, the Lady Bulldogs coasted past the Lady Tigers, clinching a playoff spot with two games remaining on the schedule.
From the early goings the Lady Bulldogs looked solid against the Lady Tigers. After winning their first meeting 73-22 in Trinity, the Lady Bulldogs felt confident about coming away with the win in this meeting. While the Lady Tigers made things more difficult, the Lady Bulldogs were able to prevail with another big district win.
After jumping out to a big lead early, the Lady Bulldogs were able to coast throughout the first half. Crockett would use an efficient offense and a stingy defensive presence to stake their early lead. Trinity struggled to find answers for the Lady Bulldogs defense as the Lady Tigers sputtered offensively.
The second half was more of the same with Crockett riding the momentum of the first half and the large crowd that had filled Bulldog Gymnasium to pull away. Trinity would put together a late run to threaten the Lady Bulldogs, but Crockett would hold them off and finish strong for the big district win.
The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Onalaska on Tuesday night, looking to complete the season sweep over the Lady ‘Cats. Crockett won the first meeting between the two teams by an astonishing score of 64-8.
Crockett will return home on Friday, February 3 to host the New Waverly Lady Bulldogs. In their first showdown Crockett was able to take the early edge in the playoff race by sweeping out to a big win on the road. Now with a two game lead, the Lady Bulldogs will look to clinch the second seed from district 23-2A going into the playoffs.
The Lady Bulldogs will finish the regular season on the road against the Groveton Lady Indians. The Lady Bulldogs dominated Groveton in a 72-26 win to end the first half of district play.
