Entertainment Guaranteed for Annual Lovefest
LOVELADY - Get in a lovey-dovey mood for Valentine’s Day during Lovelady’s 30th annual Lovefest, Thursday, Feb. 9 and continue through Saturday, Feb. 11.
This year’s theme is ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
Community members are encouraged to participate in this year’s Lovefest parade Saturday, Feb. 11, with the line-up starting at 9 a.m. at Lovelady State Bank.
The parade starts at 10 a.m.; this year’s grand marshals are lovebirds George and Dorthie Broxson, who have been married for 68 years. There are no entry fees, and participants wanting to enter into the antique car and motorcycle show should also meet at the bank. Horse entries will need to provide proof of Coggins papers. Bicycles and four wheelers will meet at the old Marlene’s Café.
The parade, which usually lasts about 30 to 45 minutes, will take the traditional route from the bank along Highway 19 to the school. Those interested in entering floats can contact parade coordinator Rhonda Stone at 936-544-6930.
Following the parade, folks can meander throughout town to browse arts and crafts booths or view the daytime entertainment. According to organizer Todd Stone, a couple of Lovelady high school students are slated to sing in 15 minute spots, and the Edge Dance Company will perform.
“And we’re working on a square dancing thing to try to put together enough people to actually do it,” Stone said.
Stone said there are no deadlines for performing or entertainment acts to sign up to participate, and interested individuals can contact him at 936-222-3483.
After getting their fill from the annual barbeque cook-off, community members can rest up for this year’s Lovefest Dance from 7 p.m. until midnight Saturday at the Lovelady Old Gym. Once again the Loose Gravel band is slated for providing toe-tapping tunes. Tickets are $8 for singles, $15 for couples, and $5 for children under the age of 12 accompanied by an adult.
