Elkhart Names Lone Finalist For Superintendent Position

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

ELKHART - Members of Elkhart Independent School’s board met Monday night to name the district’s lone finalist for the open superintendent position.

Dr. Ray DeSpain, who is currently the superintendent of Alto Independent School District, was named as the final candidate in Elkhart ISD’s superintendent search.

According to Texas Association of School Boards(TASB) guidelines, DeSpain’s name will have to be posted for 21 days before the board officially hires him.

Marvin Thomson, a field service agent with Region VII’s Education Service Center and former Westwood ISD superintendent, has served in the interim position after long-time EISD employee Mike Moon retired Nov. 30.

Thompson will continue to act as the head administrator through next week until the district lets out for the Christmas holidays.

According to representatives from EISD, the board will make a final decision whether to hire DeSpain at the district’s Jan. 3 board meeting.
