Elkhart FUMC Continues To Prepare For Lent
Worship over the next two weeks will consist of a series of stand alone sermons. This week the focus will be from the readings in 2 Kings 2:1 -12 (Lost Heroes). Feb. 19 is Transfiguration Sunday, and that will be our focus in worship. There will be a 7 p.m. Service with the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22. Ash Wednesday reminds us of our human mortality, and that we are all sinners who need to repent (seek God’s forgiveness). The cross of ashes placed on our foreheads reminds us that through Jesus Christ, there is forgiveness for all sins.
LENTEN STUDY - Final Words from the Cross
Imagine yourself at the foot of the cross. You see and hear everything that transpires as your friend, teacher and pastor dies a painful, humiliating death. That Lenten journey is the one we will be taking this spring as we study Adam Hamilton book, Final Words from the Cross. This 7-week journey leads us through the last day of Jesus’ life, his dying hours and his final words as seen and heard by those who stood near the cross. Then, we move beyond the cross to Jesus’ words to the disciples on the road to Emmaus and to those who were witnesses to the Resurrection.
Study begins on Feb. 19 from 3 – 4:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at a cost of $10 (books available in the office).
