SUNDAY, FEB. 12 - The Tabernacle Baptist Church in Redtown will be hosting a welcome dinner after the morning services on Sunday, Feb. 12 for new pastor Charles Pyle. The community is invited to attend and is asked to please bring a covered dish. The Tabernacle Baptist Church is located on the corner of FM 319 and ACR 118. MONDAY, FEB. 13 - The next Latexo PTO Meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Latexo Community Building. On the agenda for the meeting will be Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance, Teacher Appreciation Week for May 7-11 and the possibility of pre-packaged school supplies. We invite any and all parents of a Latexo I.S.D. student to attend.

BEGINNING TUESDAY, FEB. 14 - Crockett Public Library Tot Time for preschoolers and parents to share and participate in a program with by Jennie Ditoro with stories,and activities each second and fourth Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. beginning Feb. 14.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15 - The Maj. Jarrell Beasley Chapter NSDAR is for the first time, offering a $500 college scholarship to a graduating senior. Seniors, if you’re going to college, and would like to be considered for this scholarship, please see your high school counselor to get an application form. The deadline is Feb. 15.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15 - An AARP Driver’s Safety class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Ross Activity Center, 555 Euclid St., Rusk. Curriculum will feature issues drivers aged 55 and over may face. Participants who successfully complete the class could receive up to 10 off their auto insurance. Call the Rusk Civic Center, 903-683-2850, to sign up for the class. Area Agency on Aging Benefits Counselor Sharon O’Maley is available to assist senior citizens with Medicare benefits applications at the Ross Senior Activity Center, inside the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk. SUNDAY, FEB. 19 - An 80th birthday celebration for Bernice Leamons will be held in the fellowship hall of Grapeland Missionary Baptist Church on Church Street, Sunday, Feb. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. The presence of her friends and loved ones will be gifts to her.

SUNDAY, FEB. 19 - The next meeting for the Mission Tejas State Park Association (Friends Group) will be Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. in the park. Everyone is invited, it is a fun way to be a part of YOUR park. Planning is underway for The Folk Festival which will be April 28 and we would love to have your help and participation. We are located on Hwy 21 in Weches between Alto and Crockett. BEGINNING SUNDAY, FEB. 19 - Lenten Study -  Our Lenten journey examines the Final Words from the Cross by Adam Hamilton.  The 7-week study leads participants through the last day of Jesus’ life, his dying hours and his final words as seen and heard by those who stood near the cross; as well as Jesus’ final words to his disciples after the Resurrection. The study is each Sun. from 3-4:30 p.m. beginning Sun., Feb. 19. Cost is $10.

SUNDAY, FEB. 19 - Church-Wide Birthday Luncheon on Sunday, Feb. 19. Following Worship, we’ll be having a Pot-luck luncheon celebrating the Birthday of every member and guest. We invite everyone to fix their favorite dish, bring it to the church, and join us. Cake, ice cream and balloons will be provided.

TUESDAY, FEB. 21 - Jordan Health Services will hold free health screenings at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 and every third Tuesday of the month at the Ross Activity Center, 555 Euclid St., Rusk. Blood sugar and pressure tests will be available.

TUESDAY, FEB. 21 - Local CPA, PA Anita Woodlee, in partnership with the Friends of Singletary Memorial Library, will offer a free income tax seminar with a Q&A period from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Ross Activity Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk. Tax officials will be on hand to answer questions about preparing taxes, changes to tax laws and other questions about filing 2011 income taxes. No tax prep services will be available during the seminar.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 22 - Ash Wednesday Service - Everyone is invited to join us for a special worship service on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, on Wedneday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.. The service is meant to remind us of our human mortality, and that we need to seek God’s grace.

SATURDAY, FEB. 25 – Acclaimed artist The Perry’s and New Grace Trio will be hosting a gospel concert at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Texas Gospel Music Hall located at 6513 Hwy 19 South Palestine Street in Athens. Doors open at 5 p.m. General admission tickets only may be purchased in Athens at First State Bank on the Square and in Tyler at The Scroll on Broadway Street. FRIDAY, MARCH 2 - The Ross Activity Center’s First Friday Dance will be held Friday, March 2 at the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk. Admission is $5 a person. Doors open at 6 p.m.; dancing starts at 7 p.m. Caddo Creek classic country band will provide music. Patrons are welcome to bring snacks and finger foods to share. Nonalcoholic beverages will be available. Dances are sponsored by Friends of Singletary Memorial Library, Senior Care of Jacksonville, the city of Rusk and JP Auto. Proceeds benefit the Friends group and the Ross Activity Center.

EVERY THIRD MONDAY OF THE MONTH - The Texas A & M Mother’s Club (or the Aggie Mom’s Club) meets every third Monday of the month from September through May during the school year. We welcome any and all Aggie parents, family members, ex-Aggies, and Aggie fans. The meetings are held at the Houston County Electric Co-op building at 6:30 p.m. Please join us in helping to support our local TAMU students. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

EVERY MONDAY, TUESDAY & THURSDAY - Low impact aerobics classes are held every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk. Classes are free. Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes and other exercise videos will be featured.

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY - The Ross Activity Center offers Hand and Foot games at noon on Tuesdays and domino games at noon on Thursdays. Both games are free. Refreshments are provided. The Activity Center is located in the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk.

EVERY TUESDAY - “Tuesday Stitchers” meet at the Grapeland Senior Citizen Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all kinds of stitching and fellowship. Someone is on hand to offer instructions for most kinds of handwork. Anyone is welcome.

SECOND TUESDAY – The Latexo 4-H meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Wilcox Community Center in Latexo. Meeting time is 6 p.m. Anyone interested in joining can call 544-0082.

EVERY SECOND WEDNESDAY - The Christian Women’s Connection of Crockett now meets at the Houston County Elec. Co-op Room - Loop 304 SE, Crockett, for their luncheon and program. All ladies are invited. Call Shirley at (936) 544-9013 for reservations.

EVERY MONDAY - Tai Chi classes are held at the Grapeland Senior Center, each Monday evening, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Instructor Norm Ennis begins exercises promptly at 7 p.m. and ends exercises promptly at 8 p.m. Everyone is asked to arrive early and sign in. MONTHLY EVENT - VFW Post 134 in Crockett holds bingo games from 6-10 p.m. every Tuesday and from 2 to 6 p.m. every Sunday at the VFW. Everyone is welcome.
