SUNDAY, JAN. 29 - Felder’s Chapel Asssembly of God will host revival services with Gene and Mona Summers, starting at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 and at 7 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, Jan. 30 thorugh Feb. 1. Felder’s Chapel is located on Hwy. 227 East, 5.5 miles from Grapeland. Everyone is invited to attend.

SUNDAY, JAN. 29 - First Baptist Church, Elkhart invited everyone to join us for a special evening of encouragement and fellowship on Sunday, Jan. 29. New movie “Courageous” will be shown - free event that will be enjoyed by all ages (from the creators of “Fireproof). At 5 p.m. will have a Soup/Cornbread Supper and the movie begins at 6 p.m. If you have questions, please call the church office at 903-764-5110.

MONDAY, JAN. 30 - The Elkhart State Bank will be hosting a retirement party from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30 for Rita Parker and Sherry Keeling. Parker and Keeling are retiring from the Elkhart State Bank after 39 and 37 years service, respectively. The reception will feature refreshments and will be in the bank lobby. Everyone is invited to stop by and wish Parker and Keeling good luck on their retirement.

MONDAY, JAN. 30 – WEDNESDAY, FEB 1 – Salmon Missionary Baptist Church invited everyone to Revival Services beginning Monday, Jan. 30 through Wednesday, Feb. 1 beginning at 7 p.m. each evening. Join with us to recharge the New Year in Jesus! The speaker will be Salmon MBC pastor Chuck Johnston. For more information, please call 903-764-5252. FRIDAY, FEB. 3 - Ross Activity Center’s First Friday Dance will be held Friday, Feb. 3 at the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk. Admission is $5 a person. Doors open at 6 p.m.; dancing starts at 7 p.m. Caddo Creek classic country band will provide music. Patrons are welcome to bring snacks and finger foods to share. Nonalcoholic beverages will be available. Dances are sponsored by Friends of Singletary Memorial Library, Senior Care of Jacksonville, the city of Rusk and JP Auto. Proceeds benefit the Friends group and the Ross Activity Center.

SATURDAY, FEB. 4 - Slocum ISD Homecoming will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4. The alumni from the classes of ‘02 are invited (42, 52, 62, etc. to 2002) from 12-2 p.m. to enjoy the hospitality room in Ms. Buford’s room. The coronation will begin at 2 p.m. recognizing the Senior athletes and to crown the homecoming queen with the games beginning at 3 p.m. vs. Grapeland. The varsity girls will play followed by the varsity boys.

SATURDAY, FEB. 4 – A fish fry will be held at St. John Baptist Church on Saturday, Feb. 4. On the menu will be catfish, potato salad, baked beans, break, cake and soda. Cost is $6.50 a plate.

SATURDAY, FEB. 4 - First Baptist Church Grapeland invites all ladies, to A Ladies Luncheon, “The Heart of God” on Saturday, Feb. 4. Guest Speaker will be Tammy Hayes, music by Toni Childress, Rene Stephenson, and Sheryl Allen. Wednesday, Feb. 15-The Maj. Jarrell Beasley Chapter NSDAR is for the first time, offering a $500 college scholarship to a graduating senior. Seniors, if you’re going to college, and would like to be considered for this scholarship, please see your high school counselor to get an application form.  The deadline is Feb. 15.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15 - An AARP Driver’s Safety class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Ross Activity Center, 555 Euclid St., Rusk. Curriculum will feature issues drivers aged 55 and over may face. Participants who successfully complete the class could receive up to 10 off their auto insurance. Call the Rusk Civic Center, 903-683-2850, to sign up for the class. Area Agency on Aging Benefits Counselor Sharon O’Maley is available to assist senior citizens with Medicare benefits applications at the Ross Senior Activity Center, inside the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk. SATURDAY, FEB. 25 – Acclaimed artist The Perry’s and New Grace Trio will be hosting a gospel concert at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Texas Gospel Music Hall located at 6513 Hwy 19 South Palestine Street in Athens. Doors open at 5 p.m. General admission tickets only may be purchased in Athens at First State Bank on the Square and in Tyler at The Scroll on Broadway Street. EVERY THIRD MONDAY OF THE MONTH - The Texas A & M Mother’s Club (or the Aggie Mom’s Club) meets every third Monday of the month from September through May during the school year. We welcome any and all Aggie parents, family members, ex-Aggies, and Aggie fans. The meetings are held at the Houston County Electric Co-op building at 6:30 p.m. Please join us in helping to support our local TAMU students. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

EVERY MONDAY, TUESDAY & THURSDAY - Low impact aerobics classes are held every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk. Classes are free. Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes and other exercise videos will be featured.

EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY - The Ross Activity Center offers Hand and Foot games at noon on Tuesdays and domino games at noon on Thursdays. Both games are free. Refreshments are provided. The Activity Center is located in the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St., in Rusk.

EVERY TUESDAY - “Tuesday Stitchers” meet at the Grapeland Senior Citizen Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all kinds of stitching and fellowship. Someone is on hand to offer instructions for most kinds of handwork. Anyone is welcome.

SECOND TUESDAY – The Latexo 4-H meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Wilcox Community Center in Latexo. Meeting time is 6 p.m. Anyone interested in joining can call 544-0082.

EVERY SECOND WEDNESDAY - The Christian Women’s Connection of Crockett now meets at the Houston County Elec. Co-op Room - Loop 304 SE, Crockett, for their luncheon and program. All ladies are invited. Call Shirley at (936) 544-9013 for reservations.

EVERY MONDAY - Tai Chi classes are held at the Grapeland Senior Center, each Monday evening, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Instructor Norm Ennis begins exercises promptly at 7 p.m. and ends exercises promptly at 8 p.m. Everyone is asked to arrive early and sign in. MONTHLY EVENT - The Crockett 4-H Club meets every second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of the Houston County Electric Co-op. Call 936-544-7552 for more information.

FIRST MONDAY - The Homestead 4-H Club meets every first Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the old fellowship hall of the Crockett Methodist Church. Call 936-544-5967 for more info.

SECOND TUESDAY - The Lovelady 4-H Club meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Lovelady Community Center. Call 936-636-7616 for more info. Call Manager David Williamson for a schedule of Houston County’s 4-H Shooting Sports Club’s activities.

MONTHLY EVENT - VFW Post 134 in Crockett holds bingo games from 6-10 p.m. every Tuesday and from 2 to 6 p.m. every Sunday at the VFW. Everyone is welcome.
