Comptroller Reminds Citizens Of Unclaimed Money, Property

If holiday shopping has left you pinching pennies this new year, there could be a silver lining.

According to the Texas State Comptroller’s Office, more than $2.2 billion is cash and property are waiting to be claimed by the rightful owners.

“One in four Texans has unclaimed property from forgotten bank accounts, uncashed checks, security deposits and utility refunds,” the comptroller’s website states. “It’s your money, and we want you to get it back.”

The comptroller’s website lists individuals who are owed amounts ranging from one penny to a few thousand dollars.

The Comptroller’s office states it takes about a month to get claims processed if you’re the account holder.
