Ain't It Great ... Mamie Price Turns 108!!

A birthday party honoring Mamie Price was held this past week at Winfield Healthcare in Crockett. Mrs. Price turns 108 years old on Feb. 12.

CROCKETT - A festive atmosphere filled the air at Winfield Healthcare as resident Mamie Price celebrated her 108th birthday last week.

Balloons, streamers and other party favors decorated the facility as friends, family and employees joined Mrs. Price to mark the momentous occasion. The soiree was held on Thursday, Feb. 2 between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. Relatives from all over were in attendance as well as State Rep. Marva Beck and Karla Carr from Congressman Joe Barton’s Crockett Office. Beck presented Price with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and Carr presented Price with a proclamation honoring her life.

Sharing her birthday with such luminaries as Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln and Gen. Omar Bradley, Mrs. Price was born on Feb. 12, 1904, in Centerville, Texas. She is a twin and had four other brothers and sisters. Growing up in Centerville, she attended and graduated form Centerville High School in the early 1920s.

In 1923, Price married the love of her life and together they celebrated 50 years of marital bliss. The Prices were been blessed with five children, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

While she dedicated the vast amount of her time to being a housewife and a mother, Price did find time to go work for a local school district. She worked in the cafeteria and according to her daughter Mary, more than one squabble broke out over her made from scratch dinner rolls.

Price said in her spare time she enjoys sewing, quilting, crocheting and of course having all of her extended family coming by and visiting.
