GRAPELAND - Grapeland City Council members steered closer to improving the city’s streets Tuesday night.

Council members voted to accept a resolution announcing intentions to issue certificates of obligation worth about $950,000 to fund overhauling the roads. Mike Brown, of Government Capitol Securities, said the next step in the process is for banks to bid on financing the bond.

“You’re looking at about $75,000 a year for payment,” Brown said.

HOUSTON  COUNTY - A new law passed at the beginning of this month could affect the way independent pharmacies operate.

Under the new policy, effective March 1, Medicaid customers will choose an insurance plan pre-approved by state contracted companies. A set fee is also associated with the insurance companies. Pharmacists are also now required to choose which plans they will accept. Each plan comes with a different unknown reimbursement rate, which could reduce up to 80 percent of Medicaid prescription reimbursements.
