CENTRAL HEIGHTS – Slocum senior Cristina Wickersham came up big when her Lady Mustangs needed her, as the post recorded a double-double in Slocum’s 47-39 win over West Sabine on Tuesday night. Slocum led by six at the half, but saw their lead dwindle to just one point going into the fourth quarter.
After spending most of the night faced with a sluggish offense, the Lady Mustangs would eventually catch fire in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-12 in the final frame to pull away for a win in their playoff opener.

In the Lintrest of time I’ll go ahead and talk about the man, the myth, the legend. Jeremy Lin. Linsanity has taken the NBA and country by storm in recent weeks. Jeremy Lin was not recruited out of high school, where he led his team to a 32-1 record, and a state championship in California. He enrolled at Harvard, and walked on to the basketball team there. Let me repeat that, he enrolled as a student, not as an athlete. This kid has some serious brainpower.

Every two years, coaches around the state of Texas receive either a pleasant surprise or what can only be percieved as a cruel joke. That day came on Thursday, when the UIL (University Interscholastic League) announced the 2012-2014 realignment figures. While there were a couple of big surprises in the state, the Houston County area saw very minor changes.

Both teams have played extremely well since that point with Lovelady winning 12 of 13 games, and playing like one of the hottest teams in the state of Texas.
