Dear Editor,

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Dear citizens of Crockett:

I want to take this opportunity to personally thank the about six people who came to my aid on Tuesday, Jan. 17 about 5:30 p.m. in the 600 block of North Sixth Street.

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

We would like to express our thanks for all the prayers, notes, phone calls, food, flowers and monetary gifts. The outpouring of love that you have all shown our family is so appreciated and has touched each of our hearts. We are so blessed to have had the extra time and precious memories of Gerald. He will be missed, but he left an impact on everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him.

To the Editor:

When was the last time you saw the Milky Way?

Half a century ago, when I was a kid visiting Grapeland, I enjoyed seeing all the stars and the Milky Way. They haven’t gone anywhere, they’re still up there. They’re just harder to see now because there are more lights in and around Grapeland.  Though we still have a more starry night sky than Houston, where I’m from for example, we can do much better controlling what has come to be known as light pollution.

Kudos to ETMC – Crockett

We would like to take this opportunity to commend the physical therapy and emergency room staff for the fine service we have received at this facility.

The four students that attended the National FFA Convention from Grapeland this year were Shelby Bruner, Elizabeth Conner, Atlana Watson, and Lacy Amos. Shelby and Elizabeth tried out for the national chorus back at the beginning of the summer. We learned at the beginning of school that they both had been selected for the chorus. This is a 90 member choir that performs all week during the convention. The members are selected nationwide from hundreds of applications.

On reading the article “School Board Reluctant to Grant Professional Development Days” I find it quite disturbing that the Grapeland Independent School District has any reluctance to support “staff development days.” Instead of being “at the expense of classroom instruction,” those days would likely improve the quality of classroom day one-hundred-fold.

Letter to the Editor:

I write to share what happened near midnight last Sunday night outside the entrance gate to Treetops-in-the-Forest in Ratcliff.

The car, loaded with groceries enough for 22 kids from Tyler for a week’s stay, stalled outside the gate (which was over ½ mile from the house). It was pitch black and attempts to walk the drive kept leading me into the bushes on either side.

Dear Editor,

As an out-of-town property owner in Houston County, we would like to thank all the Volunteer Fire Departments in East Texas for their loyalty in helping keep our homes and property safe. It is so comforting to know there are dedicated people who give of their time and resources to help keep our communities safe from fire. We appreciate everything you do!

Thank you,

Linda Cantrell

This letter is in response to a recent local article titled “Low Staff” to “No Staff” - Is ETMC Crockett Losing Experienced Staff?

There was a quote by Helen Dise which stated, “Physical therapy used to be a full-time service but has declined into a partial service. I’ve heard that they were hiring people, but I don’t know where that stands since I left.”
